#Yearly Themes

For the last few years, I've been using the Theme System instead of resolutions or goals. Essentially instead of setting hard and fast resolutions that inevitably fall by the wayside like lose 50 pounds by next year, set a more general theme and aim for improving trend lines. Using the weight loss as an example, it doesn't really matter if you lose 50 pounds or 30, what matters is you lost weight. Your theme was successful!

You can create sub-goals as part of the theme (e.g. for the Year of Socialising, aim to meet up with at least 1 person per month), but the more important thing to focus on is the direction you took by the end of the year, not the places you stopped in on on the way.

From the Theme System site:

A Yearly Theme is a word or phrase that represents what you’d like more of in your life, or the direction in which you’d like to go.
A good Theme is broad and acts as a guide, rather than a specific or numerical outcome.
Most importantly – a good theme can’t fail. A broad theme allows you to change.

This year's theme is a two-parter: Year of Acceptance // Year of Accountability.
